VDA list
VDA list
A large number of materials and substances are used in automotive engineering. The selection and proper use of these materials and substances affects the quality, safety and environmental compatibility of vehicles and other components over their entire service life.
The ‘VDA list (VDA = "Verband der Automobilindustrie", engl: German Association of the Automotive Industry) of substances and components in materials and components requiring declaration’ contains substances/substance classes that, according to current knowledge, pose potential risks to humans and the environment during the use phase and during recycling and disposal and should therefore be avoided if possible.
The compilation of the list is based on:
- Legal requirements
- Environmental protection and occupational safety requirements for the prevention and avoidance of possible risks to people and the environment that may arise from materials used in production and operation, as well as process materials.
- The personal responsibility of the German Association of the Automotive Industry towards people and the environment, according to the guiding principle: ‘We act in an environmentally conscious manner’.
This list mainly includes substances that may pose particular risks. These include:
- carcinogenic substances
- substances toxic to reproduction
- mutagenic substances
- sensitising substances
- toxic and very toxic substances
- substances hazardous to the environment
Application of the VDA list to Norres Baggerman products: The plastic materials used in the hoses manufactured by Norres Baggerman in the article groups 330, 331, 332, 351, 352, 355, 356, 357 (each in the standard version...-0000 and in the versions...-1001, -1103 and -5100) and in the plastic materials of the entire CONNECT connector programme, no substances listed in the VDA list are contained.
In particular, the heavy metals lead, cadmium, chromium (VI) and mercury, which are named in the EU End-of-Life Vehicles Directive (EU Directive 2000/53/EC), are not used in the plastics or the spring steel wires of the above-mentioned product groups.
